Superintendent Update

Officials from the Gallia County Local Schools were made aware of a potential threat on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.  The Gallia County Local School District takes any threat to our students and faculty, whether rumor or factual, in an extremely serious manner.  The district has worked in partnership with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Department.  At this time, Sheriff Matt Champlin has confirmed that his staff has thoroughly investigated the situation and determined that there is no credibility to a threat being made against any students or staff members at River Valley High School.  This also includes any Snapchat screenshots that are circulating on social media.  The district continually works to ensure that students and faculty are housed in a safe learning environment.  Based upon recent occurrences of school violence across our nation, our district is being extremely proactive in monitoring and updating safety plans and is encouraging a heightened sense of awareness in regard to the safety of our students and faculty.

Obviously, we want our students to inform us if they see or hear of anything that they feel is potentially dangerous.  Parents are strongly encouraged to remind their children that they should not participate in conversations, in person or on social media, which could generate rumors or misinformation.  The spreading of lies and rumors can also pose a problem because they can induce panic, which is also punishable by law.  Thank you for your efforts and support in helping to keep our schools safe.

Superintendent, Gallia County Local Schools
