 Working Together – Changing Lives

What an exciting time for our school district!  Things are moving quickly and we are making important transportation changes and developing additional innovative programming.  The district is working diligently to make sure that Gallia County Local Schools is incorporating cutting edge programming and technology so that our students are well prepared for college and 21st Century careers.

Pre-school

The start of this school year will bring 160 preschool students into our elementary schools.  This program will serve to enhance their readiness for kindergarten, as well as provide parents with additional options for strong child development programming.  We are excited to report that we have formed a collaborative partnership with Head Start that will serve to bring even more early childhood expertise to the table and opportunities for additional funding.

Transportation

As most of you know, our district encompasses almost 500 miles.  Based upon feedback from the community, we have worked to restructure our extensive transportation system.  Concern has included excessive amounts of time students are spending on the buses, elementary and middle school/high school students riding the buses together, and early start times for primary students. Therefore, the district has decided to adopt a dual bussing structure, so two routes have been created.  The first will transport students in grades six through 12, with the second transporting students in grades Pre-school through five.  Bus drivers are working to finalize their routes at this time, and they will be contacting parents/guardian soon to confirm individual pick up and drop off times.

To minimize the impact for parents/guardians who needed the previous early morning drop-off time, it will still be available as necessary.  Elementary students who need this service may be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. for a study hall setting.  Please make arrangements with the building principal if you plan to utilize this service.
