Principal's Message

Thank you for visiting the website for The “Excellent” River Valley High School. It is my pleasure to serve the school and community as the fourth principal of River Valley High School. I am a 2001 graduate of RVHS, and I am proud to return as a Raider.  Pride, Tradition and Character are three strong pillars of River Valley High School. As members of the school community, I thank you for contributing to the success of our students and our school.

Thanks to the community, R.V.H.S. has facilities to take great pride in. The custodial and maintenance staffs have worked all summer to ready the school for students. Thanks to their commitment to excellence, the school looks crisp and ready for another year. I would like to say “thank you” to the community for providing River Valley Students with a state of the art building for the third year. If you haven’t yet visited the site to see the progress toward a beautiful athletic facility, please do so. Thank you to the Board of Education, the Gridiron for Gallia Committee and the school community for your support to the project.

River Valley High School will continue to implement the Ohio Improvement Process (O.I.P.) throughout the academic year. The Ohio Improvement Process (O.I.P.) is a process that schools and districts across the state use to examine data, develop implementation plans, monitor results and evaluate results of student achievement. The district adopted two-hour late arrivals will contribute greatly to the implementation of this process. The process will allow faculty and staff to monitor the success of students and provide interventions for those that need additional assistance.

RVHS has a tradition of providing a challenging curriculum to our students that requires higher order thinking. Continuing with that tradition, Gallia County Local Schools, and River Valley High School will be implementing a new senior capstone course for the 2011-2012 year. Building on the Senior Projects research activity headed by the English Department, this course is an intensive independent research course, required of all senior students, taught through the Social Studies Department. The Senior Capstone course allows students to delve deeply into a topic of their choice within one of four following schools of thought: (1) Our World: Cultural and Social Issues (2) Health, Sciences and Mathematical Applications (3)Fine Arts, Language and Literature, Performing Arts or (4) Business and Technology.

The fall athletics programs are in full swing at River Valley. Extracurricular activities provide students with experiences, opportunities for leadership and situations that require them to uphold high levels of character. Students that participate in extracurricular activities gain leadership and interpersonal skills essential to life beyond high school.

I look forward to a wonderful year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 740-446-2926 or gl_tedwards@seovec.org

Respectfully,

T.R. Edwards, Principal
