Given the most recent mandates from Governor DeWine’s office, the Gallia County Local Schools is developing a plan considering the closure of school for an extended period through at least April 3, 2020.  Detailed plans, described below, are in place to provide your student with coursework to complete while we are not in session.

It is important to understand that we could be directed by the Governor, Health Department, or Ohio Department of Education to change/update/modify any and all of these plans as new and further information is released.  We will communicate any updates via school website and schoolpointe.  You can subscribe for schoolpointe notifications by visiting www.gallialocal.org and selecting the “e-Communication” tab.

Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation.  As always, the safety of our students is of utmost importance to our district.  If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact your building administrator.

Wellness Reminders…

  • Wash your hands often using soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash, followed by hand washing.

  • Stay home if sick, except to get medical care.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces.

Explanation of Plan for Students in Grades PK-5:  Paper Packets

No technology will be sent home.  Your student is being given all coursework, via paper, to be completed and returned to the school when classes resume.

Explanation of Plan for Students in Grades 6-12:  Digital (and in some cases paper packets)

Considering the most recent mandate from Governor Mike DeWine, a Chromebook and charger is being sent home with your student to use during the closure.  Your student can access coursework via your home internet connection or by going to a location with available WiFi.  For example, each building has WiFi, so, if necessary, a person can drive to the parking lot of a building and a student can download work to his or her Chromebook and it can be completed without the internet at home.  If necessary, you are also welcome to park and let your student complete work from your car if that is your desire.  Other public locations, such as the library, also offer free internet access and can be utilized to download classroom work.
