Southeastern Ohio Model United Nations 2019

Photo Gallery

The gifted middle school students from the Gallia County Local Schools travelled to Athens, Ohio to participate in Southeastern Ohio Model United Nations on December 13th. Over 375 students from 14 schools in Southeastern Ohio came to Baker Center at Ohio University to participate and compete. The Gallia County Local Schools sent 65 students in 14 teams from 2 schools, River Valley Middle School and South Gallia Middle School. For Model UN, students adopt a country then research a problem from that country and write a one page resolution proposing a solution. At MUN, the students present their resolutions and debate them with other countries (student groups). One of the other projects the students do is present a cultural product highlighting some of the unique cultural aspects of their adopted country. The Gallia County Local Schools came home with 7 awards:

Philippines (RVMS)- Keerstin Shaver, Logan McClintic, Levi Young, Landon DeLille, & Jordan Tracewell (7th)

  • Outstanding Resolution in Council
  • Outstanding Nation in Council

Brazil (SGMS)- Madison Summers, Kennedy Shamblin, Emerika Eurell, Kaylee Ruiz (7th) & Maggie Stover (6th)

The Gallia County Local Schools also took 9 high school staffers including Shayla Sanger, Katie Baker, Ryan Snyder, Rebecca Pearce, Kristen Clark, Isaac Barrett, Taylor Hopkins, Ruth Rickett (RVHS) & Trey Johnson (SGHS). We are very proud of the students’ preparation and hard work!
